Revit 2027: Smarter Models, Faster Workflows, Connected by Design

Updated: 3 days ago

Released April 7, 2026 · Autodesk Official

Autodesk just released AutoCAD Revit 2027, and the message is clear: AI is now a core part of BIM, not a side experiment. Released on April 7, 2026, this update brings the Autodesk Assistant directly into the modeling environment, connects Revit to the full Forma industry cloud, and delivers the biggest performance upgrade in years. For architects, engineers, and BIM teams, this changes how you interact with your model every single day.

Here's What you need to know

1.Revit Now Has a Built-In AI That Talks to Your Model

The headline feature in Revit 2027 is the Autodesk Assistant — and it goes far beyond a simple help tool. Built on Model Context Protocol (MCP) architecture, it lets you interact with your Revit model using plain language directly from a chat panel inside the software. Ask it to query elements, create schedules, manage sheets, handle room data, or make bulk parameter edits across hundreds of elements — all without touching a single menu. It operates across six tool groups: model queries, sheet management, room management, schedules, exports, and element operations. This is a Tech Preview in 2027, with capabilities set to expand rapidly based on user feedback.

2.Revit Is Now a Forma Connected Client

Revit 2027 expands well beyond a single desktop application. It is now Autodesk's first Forma Connected Client — a Tech Preview that allows teams to access model data from shared, geolocated scenarios directly inside Revit. Forma Data Management Essentials, Forma Site Design, Forma Building Design, and Forma Board are all now included with Revit subscriptions. That means teams can move from early site studies through to detailed design without stitching together separate tools. Environmental datasets, wind studies, and site context data flow in from Forma Site Design without leaving your workflow. What used to require coordination across multiple platforms is now available from day one.

3.Accelerated Graphics Is Now Production-Ready

This is the biggest confirmed day-to-day performance story in Revit 2027. Accelerated Graphics — first introduced as a Tech Preview in Revit 2026 — has now graduated to a fully supported production capability for modeling and navigation. Large models feel noticeably smoother. To put a number on it: walkthrough playback in a 300-frame model with all RVT links loaded drops from 3 minutes 18 seconds in standard mode to just 38 seconds with Accelerated Graphics enabled. Dynamo also runs faster and more reliably, backed by migration to .NET 10 with improved memory handling and multi-threading. For teams working on heavy, complex models, this upgrade alone justifies the move to 2027. Autodesk Revit 2027 Product Updates

4.Carbon Analysis Is Now Built Into the Design Workflow

Revit 2027 brings sustainability tracking directly into the modeling process through Forma Carbon Insights — formerly known as Autodesk Insight. Architects can now evaluate both embodied and operational carbon without leaving Revit, running what-if scenarios on materials and design decisions during schematic design rather than at the end of a project. This is a meaningful shift for firms under increasing pressure to meet sustainability targets and report on embodied carbon across project lifecycles.

5.Walls, Stairs, and Structural Workflows Get Serious Upgrades

Beyond AI and cloud, Revit 2027 fixes some long-standing modeling frustrations. Walls can now be hosted on other walls — supporting core and finish wall setups and partition walls that follow a structural backing automatically. Hosted walls move and rotate with their host, doors and windows penetrate both walls with Auto Join enabled, and offsets can be set directly in the Properties Palette. Stair and tread numbering are now controlled via type properties. Rule-based numbering replaces manual renumbering cycles across documentation. On the structural side, analytical modeling updates directly from physical changes while preserving loads and boundary conditions. Rebar now adapts to host geometry changes with automated updates to bar distribution, splicing, and spacing through rule-based logic. Autodesk Revit 2027 Help | Autodesk

6.MEP Teams Get a More Connected Workflow

Revit 2027 also delivers meaningful updates for MEP engineers. Energy modeling now generates cleaner analytical geometry with a more guided setup process to reduce manual cleanup. HVAC workflows now operate on system-level logic, connecting zoning, load calculations, and equipment sizing in a more consistent way. Fabrication tools gain richer data output for more accurate detailing. The result is a more integrated MEP workflow from analysis through to fabrication-ready documentation.

7.The MCP Server Is Open to External AI Tools

Beyond the built-in Autodesk Assistant, Revit 2027 also makes its MCP server publicly available. BIM managers and technically minded users can connect their Revit model to any external AI tool of their choice — not just the native Assistant panel. Once configured, you can interrogate models, check parameters, run element counts, make bulk edits, and capture visual snapshots of views through natural language prompts in whichever AI environment you already use. Autodesk has confirmed an Autodesk Revit MCP Server is officially on the roadmap, signaling this is a long-term strategic direction, not a one-off experiment.

Revit 2027 is the release where AI becomes a real part of the BIM workflow — not a feature buried in a settings menu, but a tool sitting in your sidebar ready to query, edit, and document your model on demand. Accelerated Graphics graduating to production-ready, Forma cloud connectivity included by default, and carbon analysis built in make the rest of the package equally hard to ignore. If you're on an active Revit subscription, this is a release worth moving to.
