Vault 2027: AI Comes to Engineering Data Management

Released March 26, 2026 · Autodesk Official

Autodesk released Vault 2027 on March 26, 2026, and this release marks a turning point for engineering data management. For the first time, Vault has a built-in AI assistant — one that understands your data, answers questions in plain language, and helps automate routine tasks without leaving the product. Built around three core themes — Workflow Efficiency, Collaboration, and Connectivity — Vault 2027 is designed to remove friction from the engineering data management workflows that slow teams down every single day.

Here's What you need to know

1.Autodesk Assistant Comes to Vault — AI for Data Management

The biggest addition in Vault 2027 is the Autodesk Assistant — an AI-powered assistant now built directly into the Vault experience and available as a Tech Preview. It brings natural language interaction to three core areas: finding information, learning features in context, and completing everyday data management tasks. Instead of navigating complex menus or switching to external documentation, users can simply ask questions like "Show me outdated drawings in the Current Projects folder" or "Create Items for this assembly and associated files" — and the Assistant understands the request, queries Vault, and surfaces the right answer or takes action. For advanced users, complex queries using pattern matching including RegEx are also supported, helping teams identify compliance issues or analyze large datasets without writing scripts.

2.Copy Design Gets Smarter — Edit Properties During the Process

Copy Design is one of the most used workflows in Vault, and Vault 2027 makes it significantly more powerful. Users can now edit specific properties during the Copy Design process — multiple properties at once — including copy and paste directly from Excel. This ensures new designs start clean and accurate from the very beginning, without requiring a separate editing step afterward. Vault also now automatically attaches Vault-generated PDFs during the Assign or Update Item process, just like DWG and IDW files, removing a manual step that previously had to be done separately. 3.Usability Upgrades — Thumbnails, Multi-Select, and Keyboard Shortcuts

Vault 2027 delivers a set of targeted usability improvements that reduce clicks and improve clarity across the product. Higher-resolution, resizable thumbnails make it easier to distinguish similar models without opening each file individually. Copy and paste property values now copies only selected values — no headers or labels — making data sharing cleaner and faster. Multi-select open allows users to open multiple files at once, even with different file extensions, using a single action. Keyboard navigation gets a boost with a new Ctrl+Shift+F shortcut, helping power users move quickly through large datasets. In the Thin Client, the Property panel is now resizable and persistent, making it easier to review long values without hovering.

4.Vault Viewer Gets Upgrades — Better Multi-Sheet Navigation

Vault 2027 improves the Vault Viewer with better navigation for multi-sheet drawings. Users can now move between sheets quickly during reviews, reducing repetitive clicks and improving productivity for non-CAD users reviewing design documentation. Combined with improved caching, reviewing data is faster and less frustrating across the board — whether you're a CAD author or a downstream stakeholder working through the Thin Client. https://help.autodesk.com/view/VAULT/2027/ENU/

5.Vault Connector — PDM to PLM Without Third-Party Middleware

Vault 2027 continues to strengthen connectivity between on-premises PDM and cloud product lifecycle management. The Vault Connector bridges Vault Professional PDM with Autodesk Fusion Manage PLM without requiring any third-party middleware. It supports automated Item and BOM synchronization, attachment handling, and property mapping — keeping engineering data connected and consistent across both systems. For organizations running regulated or complex product development environments, this is a meaningful step toward a fully connected engineering data ecosystem.

6.Security Enhancements for Regulated Environments

Vault 2027 also delivers important security enhancements for regulated and security-conscious organizations. While Autodesk has not detailed all security improvements publicly, this update targets enterprise environments where data access controls, compliance, and auditability are critical. Teams managing sensitive engineering data across regulated industries will find Vault 2027 better equipped to meet their security requirements without disrupting the workflows engineers rely on daily. https://help.autodesk.com/view/VAULT/2027/ENU/

Vault 2027 is the most significant Vault release in years. The Autodesk Assistant brings AI directly into engineering data management for the first time — reducing training time, speeding up onboarding, and helping every user get more out of Vault without changing how they already work. The Fusion Manage Connector, Copy Design upgrades, usability improvements, and security enhancements make the rest of the package equally compelling for engineering teams of all sizes.
